About

Welcome to my blog! My name is Sam Girgis, and I would like to thank you for visiting the website. I grew up in northern New Jersey, and after graduating valedictorian of my high school class at North Arlington High School, I attended Cornell University. While at Cornell University, I majored in biological sciences and participated in biomedical research in the area of folate metabolism. Folic acid (folate) is a vitamin that is vital to several metabolic pathways involved in vitamin B12 regulation and nucleotide biosynthesis. Based on the results of my research, I was able to write an undergraduate thesis and graduate with honors from Cornell University. The studies were eventually published in several leading biomedical journals including Gene, and the Journal of Biological Chemistry. You can view the articles HERE.

After graduating from Cornell University, I matriculated at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ).  I continued my biomedical research in medical school and began writing articles on biomedical advancements in the medical school newspaper called RWJ Today.  After graduating medical school with a medical doctorate, I completed a residency in internal medicine at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital.

I am currently licensed to practice medicine in New York, and am board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine.  I am working as a hospitalist in New York City.  With this blog, I would like to re-ignite my passion for writing and for reporting on advancements in medicine with an emphasis on breaking medical news.  I will also comment on current events related to health and wellness, as well as share lessons learned regarding blogging and setting up a blog.  If you would like to contact me please email me at drsamgirgis [at] drsamgirgis [dot] com

Thank you.
