Is Creating an AIDS Free Generation a Reasonable Goal?

by Dr Sam Girgis on December 14, 2011

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has expressed aspirations for creating an AIDS free generation.  This is quite a noble endeavor and is very laudable.  Such an accomplishment would be a great achievement, and would take significant efforts from medical science and research, as well as the field of public health.  Thirty years after the first reported cases of AIDS, even making such a statement and having this goal is a tribute to the scientists and physicians who have worked to treat this devastating disease.  Despite all of the advancements that have been made, we must ask ourselves… Is creating an AIDS free generation a reasonable goal?
